Purpose: The Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiology (MSA) through its Program Committee seeks to:
- To enhance patient care through the provision of up-to-date and evidence based information.
- To provide educational opportunities of continuing education in the field of anesthesiology and related subjects that will contribute to quality care
- To support professional development that will result in improved patient care
Content Areas: The MSA Program Committee will develop program in areas related to the practice of Anesthesiology, including but not limited to perioperative care, critical care medicine, pain medicine, practice and risk management, leadership and administration and other topics related to the practice of our specialty. The topics will be selected from the needs delineated in the priority list developed by the CME Committee. This list of priorities will be developed from our survey (s), suggestions from attendees to programs and major changes in the practice of the specialty of anesthesiology.
Target Audience: Learning activities will be directed to MSA members, anesthesia care providers, perioperative nurses, and other healthcare providers whose activities are related to the field of anesthesiology, in order to enhance their ability to provide safer patient care and service the public and the profession.
Types of activities and service provided: These goals will be accomplished by meetings and conferences where physicians and other healthcare providers learn, discuss, and share information about professional practice issues, specific educational needs, and current modalities related to safe and effective patient care. Additionally, the MSA Committee on Programs may produce enduring materials and electronic media to be distributed to its target audience.
Expected Results: The MSA Programs Committee activities will enhance knowledge, competence and performance of member of the anesthesia care team, perioperative nurses, and other healthcare providers whose activities are related to the field of anesthesiology. The impact of the MSA sponsored educational activities will be evaluated utilizing assessment tools such as evaluation summaries, informal feedback and the survey results.
